Custom plug investment casting involves creating a pattern or plug of the desired part using a variety of materials such as wax, foam, or plastic. This pattern is then coated with a ceramic shell and the wax is melted out, leaving a hollow cavity in the ceramic shell. Molten metal is then poured into the cavity, filling the void and taking the shape of the pattern. Once the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the finished part.
